“Council smashes adoption target”

Monday, 02 September 2013

HARINGEY Council has announced that 22 children have been adopted since the start of April.
That figure is already well ahead of the local authority’s target and well up on last year’s total of 14.

Haringey’s cabinet member for children Ann Waters, said: “It’s fantastic to see so soon in the year that our increased efforts in recruiting and assessing prospective adopters in Haringey, and ensuring child care plans and care proceedings are being dealt with at a much earlier stage, have led to this achievement.”

The council is hoping for at least 30 adoptions over a 12-month period from April and now has a dedicated recruitment worker dealing with all initial stages of the adoption process so that applicants can be dealt with as quickly as possible.
